CoinOPS 8 R2 Avant Additions

459 games have been added to the supported game list of CoinOPS with the R2 release.  These are suggested by the community in the CoinOPS forum.  Personally I made a small number of requests as the bulk of my current pack work was added to the list with CoinOPS 8.  However with this small number of games across a variety of platforms I have been able to quickly produce an interesting and varied pack with many highlights.

Overview

C64_DieAlienSlime

This classic Mastertronic budget game from 1989 suffered from a duplication error which resulted in every published version having a game killing bug in the last level which made it incompletable.

Over the past year the original programmer has gone through his source code and finally released a fixed version.  This was given trainers by the cracking group TRIAD.

There's a fantastic commentary by the programmer about the process available to read here http://www.c64.com/articles/die_alien_slime.html

C64_QuadInit2

This new homebrew release for the C64 is a sequel to Quad Init Exit.  This colourful platformer has great attention to detail and plays fast and smooth.  The pig has a unique propulsion system to help him navigate the levels.

DOS "multimedia cds"

In the 90s there was a short period of time where CD duplication had reached the level where small companies could produce small runs of CDs without over burdensome costs but before Internet access had become mainstream.  There were many CDs made containing reference materials from the Internet of out of copyright works.  Since I have been exploring what is possible with the DOS core in CoinOPS, it suited my sense of humour to try running some of these in CoinOPS and they work beautifully.  Now at last you can re-enact The Tempest with your friends in your living room with CoinOPS as your teleprompter, or find out the truth about the Hound of the Baskervilles from the Sherlock Holmes collection, or finally find out about Housemaid's Knee whilst reading Three Men in a Boat on the Project Gutenberg disc.  Also included is one of the earliest multimedia cds from Time Magazine including features and articles from this popular American journal.

Other new homebrew

A fantastic set of recently released homebrew:
GBC_WheresMyCake and MDRIVE_Downforce are from the BitJam3 contest.
MDRIVE_CaveStory is a new megadrive version of the indie hit game Cave Story.  This is an early preview but already very playable.
MSX_Transball is a new homebrew MSX game released on the msx.org forums by santiontanon  It plays very well and is similar to Thrust, Gravitar and those sorts of games.  It's also very hard.
NES_Yun is a new NES game by the Mojon Twins I really like the bubble effects.
SPE_FMR201617  aka Football Manager Revisited 2016/17 is an update of the original Football Manager game with 2016/17 season teams and players.  Read about it here: http://fm1982-revisited.yolasite.com/fmr2016-17.php
SNES_SuperBossGaiden is a wonderful homebrew made for the SNES-CD but also compatible with the SNES.  Great graphics, music, and gameplay.  Probably one of the best homebrew games of the year.  Read about it here.

New Translations

SNES_DonaldDucknoMahounoBoushi
SNES_HyperIria
SNES_WizardryGaidenIV

are all newly translated games.  Wizardry Gaiden IV appears in CoinOPS for the first time, whilst the other two have been in CoinOPS since long ago.  Hyper Iria makes a lot more sense now, and Wizardry Gaiden IV is super difficult like most Wizardry games.

Previously Unreleased Xbox Games
Two previously unreleased xbox games with a retro theme.  Smash Out is like a 3d breakout and Trailblazerz is an updated version of the Gremlin Graphics Shaun Southern classic Trailblazer.
